Turkey trying to cover up failure in Afrin – PKK spokesman
The Turkish military and government are making up statistics in order to cover up their failure in Afrin, Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) executive committee member Murat Karayılan was quoted by German Kurdish-movement newspaper Yeni Özgür Politika as saying.
“At the head of this false propaganda is (Turkish President Recep Tayyip) Erdoğan himself. For example that day he said ‘We’re marching to Afrin, not far to go’,” he said.
“You haven’t progressed anywhere, where are you marching to?”
Karayılan said he had been informed that the Turkish military had suffered many casualties and had many tanks destroyed.
“The losses of the Al Qaeda-supporting gangs going with them were exactly 297 people five days ago,” he said. “The number of dead (Turkish) soldiers is said to be around 200, but they are hiding this from the Turkish public.”
Although the Turkish military had announced a death toll of 1,141 People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Islamic State (ISIS) fighters, the YPG had not even lost 100 men and women yet, Karayılan said.
“The Turkish Armed Forces are inflating the death tolls on the other side in order to show themselves as successful, but these lies cannot hide the truth,” he said.
“The Turkish army and the Al Qaeda-supporting forces with them are unsuccessful.”
