Unknown person shoots house of opposition columnist

An unknown person shot a bullet through the window of the Istanbul home of opposition columnist Emre Ergül last night, left-wing news site Artı Gerçek said.

“Today my study room was shot at,” Ergül, a prominent member of Islamist socialist group Anticapitalist Muslims and columnist for its news website Adil Medya, wrote on social media. “They (police) came to the scene to examine it and collect evidence. They said they would look into it.”

However, he said, the police now found shooting incidents “normal”.

“The police who came said that this type of event was normal due to an increase in personal gun ownership,” Ergül wrote.

“That means if you’re opposition and you write or draw, your life is not secure in Turkey,” he said.
