German court halts deportation of Islamist militant to Turkey
Reuters news agency reports that a German court has delayed the deportation of an Islamist militant to Turkey to ensure that he does not face “torture or inhumane prison conditions” once there.
The militant, whose name has not been revealed, travelled to Syria with his family to support an Islamist militia group.
Once back in Germany, where he was born and raised, the defendant transferred money to a bank account linked to the Islamic State, the court said.
The court sought the delay in order to be “informed about the conditions in [the] destination country”, describing this as “constitutionally necessary”.
