Turkey to keep tabs on domestic tourists using their mobile data
Turkey’s Culture and Tourism Ministry plans to obtain information on the whereabouts of Turkish tourists using date from their mobile phones, independent news site Diken reported on Tuesday.
Cell phone operators in Turkey will set up a 'domestic tourism tracking system' that will provide information to Turkish authorities on cities and hotels that tourists stay in, Diken said.
The regulation was announced in the 2020 Presidential program published in the official gazette on Monday, Diken said.
"A study that reveals tourism tendencies and domestic tourist profiles will be carried out using technological opportunities provided by telecommunication companies, but also paying attention to the privacy of personal data," the announcement said.
