Turkey to send air, naval support to Qatar, ambassador says
Turkey will send air and naval forces to Qatar in addition to the ground forces it already has stationed there, Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera reported.
"According to the agreement signed between Qatar and Turkey in 2014, all ground, air, and naval forces will be deployed to Qatar," Al Jazeera quoted Fikret Özer, the Turkish ambassador to Qatar, as saying.
The two countries would agree separately on when the forces would arrive, he said.
Özer said that it was up to Qatar to decide whether to say how many Turkish troops were in the country: “We are guests here; they are the host,” he said.
Turkey and Iran have been supporting Qatar since Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt cut trade relations on June 5, 2017, accusing the country of sponsoring terrorism.
