Tension in France over “dictator” Erdoğan magazine cover

An advertising poster showing the cover of the French magazine “Le Point” has become the source of tension for Turks in the southern French city of Avignon, according to a story on Ahval’s Turkish languages site.

A poster showing the magazine’s cover, featuring a picture of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan together with the caption “Le dictateur”, was removed by a group of Erdoğan supporters and replaced with an image of Erdoğan that portrayed him in a more favourable light.

Local mayor Joris Hébrard, described the incident as "unacceptable" and requested that the prosecutor's office open an investigation into the incident.

The original poster was also put back in place, resulting in some of those responsible for the original removal returning to the scene to protest. However they were unable to remove the poster a second time due to the presence of police officers.
