They deceived us with birth control for years, says wedding witness Erdoğan
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Sunday, while serving as a wedding witness for a Turkish vocal artist and TV personality, asked the couple tying the knot to have many children and said that Turkey had been deceived for years with the notion of birth control, Spuntik news reported.
Erdoğan donned a black suit on Sunday while attending the wedding ceremony of musician Alişan and Buse Varol in İstanbul, where he delivered a speech on the importance of family.
‘’Strong nations are made of strong families,’’ the Turkish president, who is the father of four said, adding, ‘’They deceived us with birth control for years.’’
Erdoğan presented the new couple with their marriage certificate, prior to delivering an oft-repeated speech in which he urged for many offspring.
"I always have this advice (regarding the numbers of children people should have). One is strange, two become opponents, three creates balance, four bring blessings and the rest is in God’s hands.''
The Turkish president says it is unacceptable for women to prioritise career over family and frequently advises couples in Turkey to have at least three children while he raises this number to five for Turks residing in Europe.
