Turkey considers buying Russian passenger aircraft

Turkey is in talks with Russia for the purchase of Russian-made passenger aircraft, Daily Sabah reported on Sunday citing a Russian official.

The two countries are discussing the delivery of the MC-21 passenger plane and Sukhoi Superjet 100 (Turkey considers buying Russian passenger aircraft), Yuriy Slyusar, president of Russia's United Aircraft Corporation, told reporters on Saturday.

"Yes, we are discussing both the MS-21 and the Superjet," Slyusar said, according to Daily Sabah.

The medium-haul MC-21 passenger plane made its debut abroad in September by flying to Istanbul to attend Teknofest, Turkey's largest technology and aerospace event, while the 100-seat regional jet SSJ100 successfully made its maiden flight in 2008, Daily Sabah said.

Ankara is also considering the purchase of Russian Su-35 fighter jets as an alternative to F-35 stealth fighters as the United States halted the delivery of 100 F-35s to Turkey in July after Ankara started receiving Russian S-400 air defence missile systems.
