Turkish academic names newly discovered insect after his father
A Turkish agricultural engineering professor named a type of parasitic wasp he discovered in southeastern Turkey after his father, leftist-nationalist Aydınlık newspaper said.
Professor Erol Yıldırım, who has been working on insect types for 30 years, gave his father’s name Bahattin to the newly discovered wasp – "Tiphia Bahattini".
“As I work in entomology, my father asked me to give his name to the new insect,” he said.
“When my work was published in an international magazine, 'Tiphia Bahattini' took its place in world literature.” Yıldırım was quoted as saying. “My father became so happy when he heard this. As long as the world exists, my father’s name will be remembered through this type of insect.”
