Defector from Kurdish group embarrassing America – The Times
A former spokesman for the majority-Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has embarrassed his former Western allies through his testimony after defecting to Turkey, The Times said.
“Last month, (Talal) Silo defected to Turkey and revealed how secret deals between the Kurds and ISIS (Islamic State) had led to up to 1,000 terrorists escaping Raqqa,” the newspaper said.
The SDF has said Silo had been blackmailed by Turkey and forced to read out pre-written statements that embarrassed its U.S. ally.
“The U.S. is trying to rebut his testimony, particularly his indictment of Brett McGurk, the U.S. special presidential envoy to the coalition against ISIS,” the paper said.
“Mr. Silo claims that Mr. McGurk was the key engineer of the YPG’s rebranding and weapons shipments.”
