6 dead, 7 wounded in Siirt attack
A Kurdistan Workers' Party (PPK) attack in Turkey’s Siirt province has left 6 guards dead and wounded 3 more guards and 4 soldiers, Turkish semi-official news agency AA reported on Friday.
The clash happened when PKK guerrillas attacked forces providing security to a road construction project in a forested area in the east of Turkey.
The wounded were taken to Siirt government hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, an operation to apprehend the attackers was launched.
The PKK has waged an armed insurgency in Turkey since 1984. Over 40,000, most of them Kurds, have died in the conflict.
