Turkish Post Office starts services in Jarablus

Turkey’s postal service, the PTT, started providing services in Jarablus, a border town in Northern Syria taken over by Turkey in 2016 as part of Operation Euphrates Shield.

The PTT opened a branch in November 2017 to serve both Turkish officials and Syrians. Apart from handling money, mail, and cargo transfers, the PTT branch in Jarablus is also used to pay the salaries of local police forces and the staff of Turkey’s Maarif Foundation.

The Maarif Foundation was established in 2016 to provide educational services outside Turkey. The Foundation, which some call “the parallel Ministry of Education” mainly serves as a governmental tool in the struggle against the Gülen movement, which is known for its widespread educational services throughout the world.
