Afrin: Day 43 - Turkey gains more territory in Afrin
16:59 Turkish forces reach center of Shaykh al-Hadid town
The Turkish military said that they and their Free Syrian Army (FSA) allies had captured the center of Shaykh al-Hadid on Sunday. The town, in western Afrin, is the third to fall under Turkish control since Turkey invaded the region in January.
Five villages, in various parts of Afrin, were also captured on Sunday.
The gains come on a day when Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, speaking at an AKP conference in the Turkish city of Muğla, said of the Afrin operation, "We want peace in the region. We want brotherhood. We want tranquillity. We want to establish an environment of trust. That is what we are struggling for.”
