Saudis will pay to rebuild Syria, says Donald Trump

It will be Saudi Arabia and the not the United States spending "the necessary money" to help rebuild Syria, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday.

"Saudi Arabia has now agreed to spend the necessary money needed to help rebuild Syria, instead of the United States," the U.S. president tweeted, days after his surprise announcement of a complete withdrawal of troops from the war-torn country.

Trump’s decision for the withdrawal of 2000 U.S. troops was met with bipartisan backlash from Congress, prompting the resignation of Defense Secretary James Mattis, followed by the special presidential envoy for the global coalition to counter ISIS, Brett McGurk.

The decision of the U.S. president followed an announcement by Ankara that a third military operation into Syria targeting Kurdish militias, on which the two NATO allies disagree, was set to take place.

"With me, hit hard instead by the Fake News Media. Crazy!" Trump added to his tweet.
