Turkey opening post offices in Syria

Turkey already operates mosques, schools, hospitals and police stations in parts of North Syria, and now it is opening post offices, according to state news agency Anadolu.

There is already one operational post office belonging to the Turkish General Directorate of Post and Telegraph Organisation (PTT), the agency said, and two others are presently under construction.

The provision of these types of services is essential for life in parts of Syria to return to normality, but Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is likely to see the Turkish state’s provision of services in the area as encroaching far onto his territory and authority.
