Netflix’s new Turkish original series to be on world heritage site Göbeklitepe
The U.S. media service provider Netflix’s new Turkish television show will be a fantasy series on the history of the ancient settlement of Göbeklitepe in the southeastern province of Urfa, Sina Koloğlu, a columnist of Milliyet newspaper reported on Thursday.
Netflix previously announced that it would work with Turkish actor Beren Saat for the new series.
“The Protector”, Netflix’s first original series in Turkish starring actor Çağatay Ulusoy was launched in December.
Göbeklitepe was officially inscribed on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in July.
Netflix’s television series will be a perfect opportunity to make Göbeklitepe known worldwide, said Koloğlu. A television series on the world’s oldest temple would probably attract fans of fantasy series, he said.
The ancient site was built 12,000 years ago and is recognised as the oldest known temple in the world. The site was discovered in 1963 and excavations began in 1995.
Göbeklitepe is made up of a series of circular and oval shaped structures with stone-age installations that are believed to have been mainly used for religious and ritual purposes.
