Company wins $960,000 in public tenders after boss marries Turkish president’s niece
The company of Abdulkadir Karagöz has won $960,000-worth of Turkish public tenders since the 31-year-old married the niece of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2016, opposition newspaper Cumhuriyet said.
Karagöz, who founded Mental HR Consultancy in 2014 together with Justice and Development Party (AKP) Youth Branch Head Melih Şükrü Ecertaş, won tenders from the Istanbul municipality and other publically owned companies after his marriage to Erdoğan’s niece, it said.
Ecertaş sold his share of the company on Nov. 3, 2017 and Karagöz became the sole owner.
Turkey’s main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul City Vice Chairman Serdar Bayraktar told the newspaper that if the works of a public company were carried out by parties, relatives or friends of politicians, it would cause both material and moral damage to society.
