Turkey and Thailand working on free trade agreement - ambassador

Turkey and Thailand are currently working on a free trade agreement, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency quoted the Thai ambassador as saying on Thursday.

Ambassador Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit told the audience at a ceremony in Ankara marking the birthday of late Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej, National Day and Father’s Day that the two countries hoped to conclude the agreement by 2020.

“The two countries are collaborating to further strengthen and enhance these [bilateral] ties in all potential areas,” she said.

Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Önal, who also attended the event, said the two countries had broad scope for cooperation in tourism and that direct flights to Thailand on Turkish Airlines would help in that.

He said the free trade agreement would boost existing trade of $1.5 billion.
