Draft Turkish tobacco law to introduce display ban

A new draft law on tobacco sales in Turkey includes measures banning the open display of tobacco products and mandating uniform packaging without logos on, pro-government newspaper Habertürk said.

The measures, which are similar to others that have already been introduced in other countries, would also forbid the sale of tobacco products at places where health, education, instruction, cultural or sporting activities take place.

An unnamed Health Ministry source was quoted as saying that the measures, if passed by Turkey’s parliament, were expected to come into force in seven months’ time.

“In this time, the necessary preparations will be made,” the source said.
