More Russian tourists are choosing Turkey for holiday than last year – Sputnik

The Russian Union of Tour Operators (ATOR) said early bookings for Turkish holiday destinations have increased compared with last year, despite the Russian Ministry of Interior’s removal of Turkey from the list of destinations its employees are allowed to visit for their holidays.

“The rate of early bookings in January 2018 for resorts in Turkey has exceeded that of last year's,” ATOR said in a statement cited by Russian news agency Sputnik.

Some tour providers also reported an increase in their own early bookings, Sputnik said.

One of the leading tour operators, Biblio-Globus, said bookings to Turkey had risen 25 percent, while NTK Intourist said bookings for Antalya, the major destination for Russian tourists, were four times higher than in 2017. Bookings for Marmaris increased seven times, it said.
