U.S. journalist shares new audio of Trump praising 'horrible guy' Erdoğan

A U.S. journalist on Monday shared a new audio clip from his forthcoming book in which President Donald Trump praises his relationships with "mean and tough" leaders like Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

"I get along very well with Erdoğan, even though you're not supposed to because everyone says what a horrible guy, but for me it works out good," Trump said in the clip provided by Bob Woodward during an interview with NBC News.

"It's funny, the relationships I have, the tougher and meaner they are, the better I get along with them, you ought to explain that to me some day, but maybe it's not a bad thing,’’ the U.S. president added.

This is the second time Erdoğan has been praised by the U.S. president in less than a month. On Aug. 24, Trump praised his counterpart during an event at the Republican National Convention with prisoners and hostages freed during his term in office.

“I have to say, to me, President Erdoğan was very good,’’ Trump said while speaking to Pastor Andrew Brunson, a figure at the heart of a diplomatic row between Washington and Ankara in 2018. Brunson was freed after being jailed on terror charges in Turkey for two years.

“I know they had you scheduled for a long time and you were a very innocent person, and he ultimately after we had a few conversations, he agreed,’’ Trump added.

The Erdoğan-Trump relationship made headlines in June, when former National Security Advisor for Trump John Bolton in his new book “The Room Where It Happened,’’ called the relationship between the pair a “bromance.’’
