Politician caught playing Candy Crush at Erdoğan talk
Former Deputy Prime Minister Tuğrul Türkeş may not find life so sweet after being photographed by secularist newspaper Sözcü playing Candy Crush instead of listening to a talk given by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Erdoğan’s party parliamentary party was supposed to be listening to him giving an update on Turkey’s ongoing military operation in the Syrian region of Afrin, but Türkeş – the son of nationalist political leader Alparslan Türkeş – preferred popping candy.
Social media accounts enjoyed the spectacle, with parody news site Zaytung calling it “a silent protest against the privatisation of the sugar factories”, in reference to another issue that has been high on the Turkish agenda recently.
In a separate incident at the same talk, a child dropped a tablet computer from a viewing gallery, narrowly missing Environment and Urban Planning Minister Mehmet Özhaseki.
