Turkish medical group says factories should be shut for a month

The Turkish government must stop all non-essential production for a month to halt the coronavirus outbreak, the country’s leading medical association said in a pandemic evaluation report published on Wednesday.

"In addition to all non-compulsory production, all workplaces and schools should be closed. Everyone's needs should be met in this period and the workers should not be harmed from the closedown," Evrensel cited Turkish Medical Association (TTB) COVID-19 monitoring group member Kayıhan Pala as saying.

A total of over 20,000 daily coronavirus cases have been registered across 23 provinces by the TTB, the body's report said, adding that cases cluster in workplaces.

"We are concerned that the pandemic will reach a point where healthcare organisations cannot handle," Pala said.
