Turks hold corona parties in villas despite social distancing warnings
A number of young Turkish people have held corona parties, despite official warnings against socialising in order to curb the spread of the deadly virus, the Hürriyet newspaper said on Monday.
But such defiance of social distancing recommendations has not yet prompted a crackdown by authorities. The corona gatherings are clearly a violation of regulations and police could intervene in case of complaints, Hürriyet said.
"It is a risk not only for them, but also for the neighbourhood they live in and the whole community. Such movements and gatherings must be abandoned," the daily quoted Professor Kadriye Yaşar Kart as saying.
Turkey’s measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus include the suspension of all congregational prayers at mosques, the closure of restaurants, cafes, movie theatres, wedding and event venues.
