Turkey’s Aselsan receives over $320 million in new orders

The Turkish defence giant ASELSAN has maintained growth in the first months of 2020 and received more than 2.1 billion lira ($320 million) in new orders, despite the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

The country’s leading defence contractor continued its growth trend from January to March of this year “without losing momentum”, said Chairman Haluk Görgün, in a press release issued on the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) on Thursday.

Lauding President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his nationalisation and localisation efforts that began in the early 2000s, Görgün said more than 5,000 of ASELSAN’s suppliers are now domestic companies, whose productions have reached high levels.

ASELSAN is looking to deepen its research and development and diversify its product portfolio, Gorgün said, adding that production would not be affected by “possible supply-related problems in the near future.”

The Turkish defence giant was ranked 52nd in Defence News’ 2019 list of the world’s top 100 defence companies.
