Turkey in pre-vote help to farmers, employers, toll debtors

Turkey will provide 50,000 farmers who owe money to water providers with financial aid and restructure 1.2 billion liras of debts owed in bridge and toll road charges ahead of elections next month, Sabah newspaper reported.

The government will also give employers who face fines for not registering workers more time to comply with the legal requirement, Sabah said citing the plans.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced a swathe of measures ahead of presidential and parliamentary elections on June 24 which are designed to win votes and boost economic growth.

Some of the measures have been criticized by ratings agencies and economists because they are inflationary and risk economic overheating.
