Turkey increases import duties on various goods
Turkey’s government increased import duties on goods including construction materials, televisions, paper, cardboard and toys.
Taxes of an additional 10 percent to 30 percent will be applied on the goods, according to a decision published in the Official Gazette on Monday.
The decision will not affect the conditions of Turkey’s Customs Union with the EU, though the importer will be responsible for the correct declaration of goods, the government said.
Turkey is seeking the means to boost economic activity after a currency crisis swept through the economy earlier this year. The economy contracted 1.1 percent on a quarterly basis in the three months to September, the Turkish Statistical Institute reported on Monday.
