Iranians extradited by Turkey are sentenced to death

Two Iranians, who fled to Turkey due to fear of prosecution for participating in nationwide protests last year, were sentenced to death after Turkey deported them to Iran where they were immediately arrested, Radio Farma said.

Iranian authorities decided to hike petrol prices as part of efforts to blunt the effects of crippling U.S. sanctions on the country's economy in 2019.

The move sparked demonstrations in cities and towns across Iran, with tens of thousands of people taking part in the protests. Dozens of banks and stores were set on fire or damaged.

Mohammad Rajabi and Saeed Tamjidi were arrested in Turkey, and despite producing ample evidence of being in danger for participating in the protests, Turkish security forces deported them to Iran where they were sentenced to death, Radio Farma said.
