Erdoğan meets Libya's Dbeibah in Istanbul

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Saturday received the interim prime minister of Libya, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

The pair had a one-on-one closed-door meeting at Istanbul’s Vahdettin Mansion, which lasted over an hour, according to Anadolu.

Turkey, which is heavily involved in Libya, has welcomed the appointment of Libya’s new government in March, after years of conflict between rival factions.

Turkey had backed the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) against the eastern-based Libyan National Army (LNA), which was supported by Russia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, among others.

The country signed economic deals with the GNA, which Dbeibeh has said should remain.

Ankara has said that Turkish firms would take an active role in rebuilding the oil rich North African country.

The leaders of the two countries are scheduled to attend a meeting of Turkish and Libyan delegations, Turkey's Communications Directorate said on Saturday.
