Turkey delivers armoured vehicles to forces fighting against Libya's Haftar - South Front

Libyan armed groups allied with UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) received armoured vehicles and arms from Turkey as they fight against Libyan National Army (LNA), the military news site South Front reported on Sunday.

Referring to photos released by Libyan sources, South Front said dozens of Turkish-made BMC Kirpi armoured vehicles were delivered to the port of the country's capital Tripoli.

"The delivery of these armored vehicles is a clear violation of the arms embargo imposed on Libya by the U.N. Security Council (UNSC) since February of 2011. This act could lead to a crisis between Turkey and the main backers of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Egypt and the UAE," the website said.

Libya is split between the GNA, led by Fayez al Sarraj in Tripoli and recognised by the UN, and the Tobruk government, led by General Khalifa Haftar, the de facto ruler of eastern Libya and head of the LNA. Khalifa Haftar has launched an assault to control Tripoli in April.

The United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have been supporting the LNA while Turkey and Qatar are sided with the GNA.

Forces loyal to the GNA appealed to Turkey to obtain military and civilian help after Haftar started the offensive to seize the embattled Libyan capital.
