Turkish court demands acquittal of Cumhuriyet journalists
The Turkish Court of Cassation demanded for the second time the acquittal of journalists sentenced for allegedly helping terrorist organisations, reported Turkish daily T24 on Monday.
The lower court had convicted 13 former journalists and executives from Cumhuriyet newspaper for allegedly helping terrorist organisations.
The Court of Cassation demanded the acquittal of the Cumhuriyet staff in September, but the lower court defied the ruling for all the journalists except columnist Kadri Gürsel.
T24 said that if the local criminal court defies the ruling again, the case will be brought to the Court of Cassation’s assembly of criminal chambers.
