Qatar’s silence irks pro-government Turkish media
Qatar’s lack of public support for Turkey in its diplomatic dispute with the United States and economic troubles angered Turkey’s pro-government Takvim newspaper.
“How is this friendship?” asked Takvim, characterising Doha’s silence as a “betrayal” and reminding readers that Turkey sided with Doha in its dispute with other members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) that began in 2017.
Takvim amplified it displeasure by noting that many other countries had already expressed support for Turkey.
Sabah, another pro-government newspaper took a similar though more subtle approach in an article that focused on support Turkey has received in the face of what it described as an “economic attack”. It still found space to note Qatar’s silence, again contrasting it to Turkey’s public and visible support for the Gulf State during the GCC crisis.
