Turkey is ready to solve S-400 compatibility issues, defence minister says

Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar said on Thursday that Ankara was ready to solve compatibility problems of the Russian S-400 missile system with NATO hardware, state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

Turkey and the United States have been at odds over Ankara's purchase of the Russian air defence missiles, which the United States maintains are incompatible with the alliance's defence systems. Washington has suspended Turkey from a programme to purchase the F-35 fighter jets.

"We're ready to discuss the technical concerns of the United States on the compatibility of S-400s and F-35s," Akar said.

He said Turkey's proposal to form a joint working group to resolve difficulties over its purchase of the S-400s was still on the table and pointed to some NATO members' possession of S-300 missiles, an older version of S-400s.

"Just as the S-300 system, which exists in some NATO member states, is used in the NATO alliance, the S-400 system will also be used in Turkey in the same way," Akar said.
