Turkish ruling party official wins 130 government contracts
A company jointly owned by an official from Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) won 130 tenders in just four years from the Gaziantep Regional Directorate of the Treasury and Finance Ministry’s State Supply Office, Cumhuriyet said.
Arge Group IT company, which is jointly owned by AKP Gaziantep Provincial Board Member Ali Uncuoğlu, received around 10 million liras ($1.47 million) for 130 tenders held between 2015 and 2019, Cumhuriyet said.
Arge Group was the only firm that entered the tenders, which were for supplies such as printers, scanners, computers, and toner.
Uğur Kalkan, a main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) council member in Şahinbey Municipality in Gaziantep, southeast Turkey, described Uncuoğlu’s tender rate as “dazzling” and asked why an open process and a competitive environment had not been ensured for the tenders.
“We are waiting for an explanation from the authorities on this matter,” he said.
