Germany’s TUI adds to Turkish hotel collection with Club Asteria purchase

TUI, Germany’s biggest travel company, acquired the Club Asteria, a beachfront hotel in the Turkish golf resort of Belek, after buying its parent company Kybele Turizm Yatırım.

Club Asteria, a five-star facility with a private beach, 594 rooms and 20 villas, became TUI’s 17th hotel in Turkey, Dünya newspaper reported on Tuesday. TUI operates in Turkey via its unit TT Hotels Turkey Otel Hizmetleri.

German tourists flocked to Turkey in 2019, attracted by knock-down prices and a lull in political tensions and terrorism attacks in the country. A failed military coup in 2016, bomb attacks by Islamic State and the civil war in nearby Syria had deterred many tourists from visiting the country.

TUI also bought the 288-room Grand Azur hotel in the resort town of Marmaris from Turkey’s Doğuş Group in March, Dünya said.
