Russian travel firms expect big demand for Turkey holidays

Russian tourism representatives said they expected a large number of tourists to visit Turkish resort towns after flights restart on Aug. 1, Daily Sabah reported on Sunday.

“We expect high demand for the August tours for holidays in Turkey,” Daily Sabah cited Svetlana Baranova, press secretary of leading Russian tour operator TEZ TOUR, as saying.

She said many holidaymakers postponed their plans rather than cancelling due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Flights between Turkey and Russia are set to restart on Aug. 1, with initial flights to the Turkish capital Ankara and Istanbul, and the first charter flights to the resort towns of Dalaman, Bodrum and Antalya scheduled for Aug. 10, Anadolu said.

Turkey suspended all international travel in late March in a bid to stem the COVID-19 outbreak.

Turkey is a popular destination for Russian tourists, accounting for over 15 percent of all arrivals in the country in 2019, according to figures from the Culture and Tourism Ministry.
