Turkey’s Antalya becomes world’s cheapest holiday destination
Turkey’s southern resort of Antalya has become the most economical holiday destination, Manchester Evening News said on Monday.
"Despite being popular with tourists who flock to the Turkish province, prices have remained resolutely low for travellers, earning it the title of the cheapest city in the world," the news outlet said.
Antalya hit a record high of over 15 million foreign tourists visits in 2019.
Turkey's flag carrier, Turkish Airlines, has decided to add new flight routes to Antalya, the latest of which links Britain's Birmingham to Antalya airport. Flights on the new route will start on June 3 and operate twice weekly, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Turkey is seeking to increase revenue from tourism to help stimulate economic growth following a currency crisis in 2018 which sparked a deep economic downturn.
The government has reduced taxes on tourism operators to stimulate growth in the industry and has spent more on promoting the country abroad.
