Turkey unemployment climbs to highest since February

Turkey’s unemployment rate rose to 10.2 percent in June in a sign economic activity is slowing.

The jobless rate advanced from 9.7 percent in May and was the highest since February, when the figure stood at 10.6 percent, data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute showed on Monday.

A slump in the lira against the dollar this year is curbing economic growth in the NATO member and has raised concern for a full-blown financial crisis.

Youth unemployment increased to 19.4 percent from 17.8 percent in May.
