Turkey ponders over the steps to be taken against US sanctions

Turkey’s High Advisory Board condemned the US sanctions over Turkey’s purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense system, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Tuesday.

The board discussed the US’ sanctions decision in a meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun said in a statement.

Fahrettin Altun said that the US’ decision of unilateral sanctions on Turkey, a NATO ally, was condemned and the steps to be taken against this wrong decision on issues of national security and sovereignty of Turkey were evaluated, the same report quoted.

The US on Monday introduced sanctions on Turkey over its purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defense system.

The Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) targets the country’s defense industry and and including Ismail Demir, head of the defense industries, and three other officials.
