Britain’s Labour conference to include a session on Turkey

An event entitled “The End of Democracy? The 'New Turkey' and a Region in Flux,” will take place in Britain on Sept. 24, as a part of the Labour Party’s 2018 conference in Liverpool.

The event organised by the Britain-based think tank Centre for Turkey Studies will aim to discuss Turkey, which is at a definitive moment in its history, with the introduction of a new executive presidential system following the elections held on June 24 and in the face of security challenges from Syria and Iraq, while trying to stabilise an economy which is on the brink of a crisis.

Yavuz Baydar, editor-in-chief of Ahval news, veteran journalist Cengiz Candar, human right's activist and Ahval commentator Nurcan Baysal, and academic Arzu Yilmaz will join the event to discuss these developments in Turkey and what they mean for democracy and the region.
