Daughter of a Turkish top judge promoted after a day
The daughter of the head of Turkey’s highest administrative court has been promoted only a day after she was appointed as a judge in the eastern province of Elazığ, the Hürriyet newspaper said.
Gonca Hatinoğlu, the daughter of Zerrin Güngör, the president of Turkey’s Council of State, was appointed judge in Elazığ on Monday after working in the press and public relations department of the prime minister’s office.
A day later, the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors promoted her to be an investigating judge at the Court of Appeals.
Turkey has been widely criticised for the lack of independence of its courts and judiciary during a widespread crackdown on dissent carried out in an ongoing state of emergency in response to the 2016 failed coup attempt.
