Erdoğan-affiliated Turkish businessman's wife files for divorce over adultery

The wife of Mehmet Cengiz, the founder of Cengiz holding which has close ties to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, filed for divorce demanding a 400 million lira ($66 million) over adultery, T24 news site reported.

Fatma Cengiz said in her divorce file that the businessman had one child from an extramarital affair and also asked a monthly alimony of 750,000 lira ($123,262). 

The couple has been married for 30 years and has six children. 

Cengiz is known to be part of a tight inner circle of businessmen employed by Erdoğan in state-sponsored infrastructure and energy projects. His Cengiz Holding is among the world’s top 10 private sponsors of public infrastructure projects according to the figures of the World Bank’s 2018 Private Participation in Infrastructure Database.
