Former deputy governor of Mosul kidnapped in Istanbul
It has emerged that the former deputy governor of Mosul in Iraq disappeared in Istanbul in October 2016, according to Turkish pro-government broadcaster NTV.
The 49-year-old Faisal Al Yawer is believed to have been kidnapped, the broadcaster said, and has not been heard from since.
Yawer, who had moved to Jordan after the Islamic State took over Mosul province, had come to Istanbul after being invited to a conference and was last seen getting into a white car outside of Istanbul Atatürk Airport.
NTV said that there have been rumours that a 10 million dollar ransom has been demanded of Yawer’s family for his return.
One of the suspected kidnappers has been caught, the channel said, but would not reveal Yawer’s location.
