"French soldiers will leave Manbij in coffins" - left-nationalist Perinçek
Doğu Perinçek, the head of the left-nationalist Patriotic Party (Vatan Partisi) stated on Tuesday that the United States’ impending withdrawal from Syria proves that it has been defeated in the region. Perinçek also threatened French President Emmanuel Macron for sending troops to Syria and praised the rapprochement between Turkey and Russia during an interview on his Party’s Ulusal TV.
Doğu Perinçek’s party’s vote is only around 1 percent in general elections, yet he has had a disproportionate influence over Turkish politics, particularly in recent years. Some claim that he is the implicit partner of the Turkish government and his and the government’s domestic and foreign policy priorities have begun to converge since the coup attempt.
“With this statement, Trump says that they will withdraw from the region under these circumstances. It has no other meaning – Trump’s scolding about Syria means the U.S.’s defeat in Turkey and in the region,” said Perinçek yesterday about U.S. President Trump’s decision to withdraw from Syria.
“Trump came to power supporting protectionist policies. We are sending the U.S. out of the region with its weapons. We cannot send the U.S. from the region without its weapons,” he added.
Perinçek also talked about claims that French president Macron is to send troops to Manbij to join the coalition forces in the area fighting against ISIS. The Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia, which Turkey regards as a security threat due to their affiliation to Kurdistan Workers’ Party, an armed group fighting for autonomy inside Turkey, is the main partner of the coalition forces led by the U.S. in Manbij.
“If the French soldiers arrived to Syria to fight, I salute Macron from here, he should ready the coffins. Our France representative Ali Rıza Taşdelen will give our messages to the [French] government in a couple of days, he will say to Macron, ‘You sent your soldiers there by plane, but they will return inside coffins. French mothers! If you don’t want your children to return inside coffins, bring Macron into line and make him give up that mission”
Perinçek also talked about the relationship between Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian president Vladimir Putin, which he sees a signal indicating that a new world order is being established.
“Reaching an agreement with Turkey shows that Turkey is positioning against the threat from the U.S. NATO has made Turkey a target. In recent circumstances, Turkish-Russian cooperation has been strengthening. Turkey has reached a point where Turkey now is standing up against NATO,” Perinçek said, claiming that this change implied the victory of his party’s policies.
