Turkey’s domestic car project deal postponed
The contract signing ceremony for a domestically produced Turkish car project and the announcement of the CEO for the project has been postponed, Minister of Science and Technology Faruk Özlü said on Thursday, A Haber said.
The domestically designed and built car is an important election promise of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He previously announced that the prototype of the new domestic car would be ready by 2019 and production would start in 2021.
Firms Anadolu Grup, BMC, Kiraca Holding, Turkcell and Zorlu Holding are to establish a joint venture to produce the vehicle and were expected to appoint their CEO by April.
Özlü did not specify any date, but said the signing ceremony would take place before the end of May.
