Turkish father and son jailed for massive forest fire in Marmara island

A Turkish court on Wednesday jailed a father and his son for causing a forest fire on Marmara Island, Turkey’s second largest island in the Marmara Sea, Anadolu Agency reported.

The fire that erupted on Marmara Island on Monday spread to residential areas, damaging three residential buildings of the gendarmerie, and required 10 hours to be controlled.

On Monday, police detained two people, a father and a son, for causing the fire by burning hay in their garden. A court on Wednesday ruled for the official arrest of Hüseyin T., a retired teacher, and his son Orkun. The two will now remain in prison until their trial.
