Rocket attack kills two Turkish soldiers in Operation Claw-Tiger

Two Turkish soldiers were killed and another wounded in northern Iraq on Thursday, Turkey’s Defence Ministry said in a statement.

The casualties followed a rocket attack by “members of the separatist terrorist organisation” on a base within Operation Claw-Tiger’s mission area, it said, using a term normally used to refer to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Turkey launched Operation Claw-Tiger in June as part of efforts to contain the PKK’s activities in northern Iraq with plans of a more permanent military presence on the ground.

Last week, Turkey and Iran announced they would take joint steps to combat Kurdish groups in the region, the first time such cooperation has been publicly acknowledged.
