Opposition MP awaits response from Ankara on Erdoğan’s $400 million jet

Turkey’s opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Gamze Taşcıer, who last week brought a luxurious private jet acquired from Qatar for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Turkey’s agenda, says she is still waiting on a response to a written question to Vice President Fuat Oktay on whether the 747-8 model VIP jet was purchased or gifted.

Turkish news site Kokpit.aero reported the Qatari sheikh presented the luxurious jet as a gift to demonstrate his “love for Erdoğan and trust for Turkey” after the Turkish president showed an interest in the aircraft, which was on sale for an asking price of around $400 million just three years after being delivered to Qatar in 2015.

‘’I am asking the same question again,’’ Taşcier said on Twitter. ‘’Was this jet purchased? I am looking for answer from the presidential palace and not from Turkish media.’’

Taşcier last week accused Ankara of ostentation while advising belt-tightening measures to the people of Turkey amid an ongoing financial crisis.
