New managers at CNN Türk, pro-government news agency

One of Turkey’s largest media groups is appointing new managers to its news agency and leading television news channel, CNN Türk.

The Demirören Media Group has employed Murat Yancı as the general manager of CNN Türk. Yancı has taken over the position vacated by former manager Bora Bayraktar, Turkish media news site Medya Radar reported.

The media group has replaced Demirören News Agency general manager Salih Zeki Sarıdanışmet with a new manager, Kubilay Gülbek.

Both new appointees have come from A Haber, a leading news channel among Turkey’s large pool of pro-government media outlets.

Yancı has joined after working as A Haber’s assistant general manager, while Gülbek was the channel’s news coordinator.

Demirören Group, a conglomerate with close ties to Turkey’s Justice and Development Party (AKP), stunned Turkey’s media sector in March, 2018, when it bought Doğan Media Group, the country’s last quasi-independent media group, in a $916 million deal financed by a loan from the state-owned Ziraat Bank.

Since the sale, viewer and reader figures for the group’s flagship news outlets have dropped significantly. CNN Türk has been the target of considerable criticism for biased reporting favouring the government.
