Bolton, Dunford to join Turkey’s Albayrak at D.C. event - report
U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton and Joseph Dunford, head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will attend a conference in Washington D.C. organised by Turkish and U.S. business groups, Sabah newspaper reported.
The senior officials will be at the same annual event on April 14-15 with Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, the son-in-law of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Albayrak will be joined by Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar and other ministers, Sabah said.
The meeting is occurring during a diplomatic crisis between Turkey and the United States over Erdoğan’s planned purchase of Russian S-400 defence missiles. U.S. officials have threatened economic sanctions against Turkey should Erdoğan go ahead with the deal.
The annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund are preceding the conference. Albayrak spoke at an event organised by U.S. investment bank JPMorgan on the sidelines of the meetings late on Thursday.
